About

I sing the body electric,

The armies of those I love engirth me and I engirth them,

They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,

And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the soul.

Walt Whitman, “I Sing The Body Electric”
Welcome to Sing The Nation Electric, a blog established in 2019 to celebrate music from around the globe, from the U.S. to Ukraine, from bluegrass to black metal. Inspired by Walt Whitman’s enthusiasm for living things, we seek to provide a forum for music lovers from all genres to share and discover new sounds and new experiences.
We write album features– not reviews. We do not provide number scores or letter grades. We write as music celebrators, not music critics. We may mention from time to time what rubs us the wrong way, but our primary goal is to share what we love about what we feature. In time, we may also introduce artist interviews, personal essays, and other content as Sing The Nation Electric enters further into its second stage of existence. The first stage was a series of reviews between January-July 2017. They were imperfect, but they paved the way to where we are today.
Sing The Nation Electric is also a political blog in the sense that we censor submissions. We exercise no tolerance for the alt-right, white supremacists, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and any speech that “otherizes” human beings based on their circumstances and not their actions, along with hate speech in general.
Are you looking for new music? You’ve come to the right place! We hope you stay for a while, kick up your feet, and support featured artists by streaming their music, buying it, sharing it, and following them on social media. Create culture with your clicks. Live life in the rush of discovery. Don’t stop your explorations here, by the way. Explore blogs all over the Internet. Mathcore Index, Can This Even Be Called Music?, No Clean Singing, and even Pitchfork and theneedledrop are wonderful places to enjoy new things.
Are you a music artist? Thank you. Thank you for giving your time and talent to make the world a better place. You might be joyful, curious, hurt, angry, or just having feels in general. We welcome that. We welcome all of it. This is a safe place for you. We encourage and look forward to submissions from POC, LGTBQ+, indigenous, and other voices that have not gotten their due in mainstream music. We love you and we can’t wait to hear what you’ve been working on; visit our submission page to learn more.
Are you a writer? Do you want a forum to share bands you love and things that you love about them? You’re invited to write one or more features for Sing The Nation Electric! We don’t use the phrase “guest post” around here. If you write even one feature for us, you’re featured on our contributor roster forever and ever. We’re glad you’re here and we hope you will join us, whether that’s now or later. Take a look at our contribution page to learn more.
